Doors Open Winnipeg: Vaughan St Jail

May 28 @ 9:00 am 5:00 pm

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Doors Open Winnipeg hosted annually by Heritage Winnipeg! There a many buildings and event to explore for free over the weekend so be sure to check their website to get the details.

The Friends of the Vaughan St. jail (Gaol) Inc. will be returning once again offering the public an opportunity to see inside this 142 year old jail where you will hear tales of crime, law and how this building changed local and national history. Plus hear about executions and ghost stories just to add a little gore for ya! The event is free but we the Friends group would greatly appreciate any donations or purchasing of t-shirts to raise funds so we can continue to participate each year. Also, there will be books available for sale by authors Matthew Komus with his Haunted Winnipeg books and Kristen Treusch’s book about the jail’s history.

Tours are about an hour or so and groups of 40 people about every 15 minutes enter the site. Don’t let the line ups scare you away from attending as there is entertainment and historic characters outside to regale you with their tales and rules!

No bathroom on site. Not wheel chair accessible. Some content may not be suitable for young viewers, viewer discretion is advised.
